Jin Yong
At first Chin Yung pursued a
career as a diplomat, but eventually switched to the field of journalism. He
started as a reporter at the Ta Kung Pao daily in Shanghai, then sent to the
branch office in Hong Kong. At that time the development of the film industry
in Hong Kong was already advanced. This attracted his interest in writing a
review of cinema which later became basically writing novels.
In 1955 Jin Yong wrote his
first novel entitled Books and Swords. The story was published in Xin Wan Bao
daily in Hong Kong as a series story and received good reception from readers.
He then opened his own newspaper company named Ming Pao Daily, where he added
that it only contained the story there. For the sake of reading the story, many
people buy their own daily.
His work is not too much, but
the average quality is high. Chin Yung's novel gained international popularity
so it was translated into several languages, including English, French, Korean,
Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Thai and Myanmar. The results of
his work are also appointed to the big screen, TV series, comics, even video
games. Until now, Chin Yung's works have been ranked as the best-selling
martial arts novel with sales of more than 100 million copies.
Chin Yung put a lot of
historical elements in his essay. He is very good at inserting hilarious
figures and building a fresh atmosphere between the tension of the story line.
With lively language, the long story doesn't seem boring at all. His last novel
was released in 1972, and he swore he would not write a novel again. Even so,
the name continues to be remembered by connoisseurs of the Wuxia novel. Snow
